CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a structured talking therapy that analyses the connections between your thoughts (cognitive), your feelings & emotions and your behaviours.
Typically, it addresses the problems you are having in your life here and now so that you can develop coping skills and learn techniques to change negative or anxious thinking patterns and unwanted behaviours.
CBT is a collaborative, individulised and interactive therapy which combines your knowledge of yourself and the therapeutic knowledge of effective interventions and processes for change.
Sometimes it is necessary to look further back into your past to understand the cause of your problems or to process traumatic memories but the primary focus of CBT is helping you find solutions to current difficulties and work towards a more positive future.
CBT is typically a short term therapy (6-20 sessions) and is recommended for depression and anxiety, including OCD, panic, social anxiety, health anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, low self esteem, phobias and managing long term health conditions.

Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy is an in-depth and often longer-term approach compared to traditional CBT. In therapy, we integrate attachment theory, Gestalt psychology and cognitive behavioural therapy to understand the deeply rooted patterns, beliefs, and coping styles that were often formed in childhood and continue to influence your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviour today.
This approach not only deepens understanding of problems in the context of the past but also offers therapeutic interventions that will help move you towards more healthy and helpful coping strategies in your life.
These patterns are often linked to unmet emotional needs and longstanding schemas—core beliefs about yourself, others, and the world that developed through early experiences. Together, we explore how these schemas are activated in your daily life and identify the coping strategies you have developed to manage painful feelings, such as avoidance, self-criticism, people-pleasing, numbing, or emotional withdrawal.
The therapeutic relationship provides a safe and supportive space based on your needs where we seek to understand these patterns with compassion rather than judgement. You can begin to heal old emotional wounds, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and develop healthier ways of meeting your emotional needs. Schema Therapy aims not only to increase self-awareness but also to create lasting emotional and behavioural change, helping you build more fulfilling relationships and a stronger sense of self.

Psychodynamic Counselling
The focus of psychodynamic therapy is to explore unconscious processes as they play out in current patterns of behaviour. This might look like repeatedly finding yourself in unhealthy relationships in your personal or professional life, perhaps you are compelled to please everyone even though you feel resentful or overwhelmed or maybe you have noticed you are habitually using food or substances to soothe difficult emotions. The therapeutic relationship serves as a guide to self-awareness and understanding of the influence and impact of past relationships, experiences and supressed emotions. In making sense of the past you can begin to let go of defence mechanisms (typically unhelpful behaviours that we acquire in order to protect ourselves from pain). This approach enables you to examine unresolved conflicts both internal and in relationships, physical and emotional symptoms and repeating patterns and work towards more healthy ways of coping with the ups and downs in life.
''The pain is there; when you close one door on it, it knocks to come in somewhere else.''
